Fact: Did you know that 1 out of 6 millennials already has the first $100k saved? According to a report from Bank of America titled “Better Money Habits,” a little over 15% of Americans between the age of 23 and 37 already have $100k socked away in the bank, their 401k, and other savings vehicles.
Here’s another fact for ya: I’m not one of them, and if you’re reading this page, you likely aren’t either. That’s why I created savingthefirst100k.com, for the 5 out of 6 millennials and anyone else who has yet to reach this pivotal savings milestone, but so desperately wants to save the first $100k, fast.
Why Is Saving The First $100k So Important?
So what’s so special about the first $100k, anyway? Well, I think nothing sums it up better than this quote:
“The first $100,000 is a bitch, but you gotta do it. I don’t care what you have to do—if it means walking everywhere and not eating anything that wasn’t purchased with a coupon, find a way to get your hands on $100,000. After that, you can ease off the gas a little bit.” — Charlie Munger, Vice Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway and business partner to Warren Buffett
Saving the first $100k is quite similar to losing the first 10 lbs when you have a massive amount of weight to lose. In the beginning, it’s a battle of trial and error, ebb and flow, and taking two steps forward only to take one step backwards.
Until one day, you’ve reached the first milestone in your journey, you’ve figured out a plan that works, and losing the next 10 lbs. or saving the next $100k. doesn’t seem so daunting or impossible.
The key to reaching the milestone is consistency! No matter how small your steps, no matter how many times you falter, moving in the positive direction is instrumental to getting you across the finish line.
Who Am I & Why You Should Follow My Journey to Saving The First $100k
Oh excuse me, I forgot to introduce myself. Hey There! My name is Kim. I’m a Southern gal who’s obsessed with the endless ways one can make money online. I started buying and selling domain names towards the end of 2008, and I started making money online via paid forum posting (I used to literally make less than one cent per hour (☉_☉), freelance/ghostwriting, virtual assistance, transcribing, and blogging in 2011.
I’ve started several blogs since my journey into Internet marketing, and although most of them failed, one of them did quite well (disclaimer: the blog in question is a small beauty blog). In fact, it still does quite well. Despite not adding much new content to this blog since 2011, I still manage to earn anywhere from $300 – $600 a month from advertisement and Amazon Associates affiliate earnings.
Check out the proof here:
Talk about passive income!
But wait! Don’t cheer for me yet! You see, while continuing to earn money from work I did 8 years ago is a pretty impressive and huge feat, I should and could be earning thousands if not tens of thousands from this blog had I’d done one thing…remained consistent. Since starting my beauty blog back in 2011, I’ve watched Internet superstars like Pat Flynn, Spencer Hawes, and Michelle Schroeder, go on to earn millions of dollars from their various online ventures and literally change the course of their financial future thanks to blogging, which brings me back to the point of this website.
Much like becoming a successful blogger, saving the first $100k requires a few things: consistent, deliberate effort and a PLAN! If I’m being honest, while I may write a budget, I usually fail at sticking to it, and while I’ve always conjured up big dreams for my online blogging empire, I’ve rarely if ever taken the time to sit down and actually write a plan to make those dreams a reality. It’s no surprise that I’ve achieved mediocre results when it comes to blogging and my bank account is indicative of the same lack of follow through when it comes to saving money.
Easy There Tiger!
But wait! I’m not here to beat myself or anyone else up about their poor money choices of the past. Society already does that enough for us, so why pile it on? I’m just fessing up to the truth because as they say, it’ll set you free. Besides, to reach any worthy goal, you need a clean slate and a clear mind, and if we ever hope to save the first $100k and beyond, this journey has no room for griping over yesterday’s financial mistakes.
I want this website to not only serve as a journal for my journey to the first $100k, but I hope it serves as a guide and source of inspiration for your own journey.
